Saleh Kazemi
Saleh Kazemi was born in Tehran in 1992, where he lived until the age of 18.
Despite showing an interest in art from an early age, he initially chose to pursue scientific studies. However, after high school, he moved to Italy to study Graphic Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome.
Documentary photography was his first professional endeavor, during which he participated in numerous exhibitions and won several awards for his work.
In his ongoing quest for a more personal artistic language, and in a desire to distance himself from technological means, he decided to abandon photography and focus on drawing instead.
Kazemi's life is a continuous journey. With a small canvas or sketchbook always in his bag, he captures the people, places, and moments unfolding around him. His work acts as a mirror to everyday life, for example portraying a series of moments of waiting.
His observational gaze differs from that of the camera he left behind. Instead, he creates a condensed, richly detailed space, viewed from various perspectives.
Since 2022, inspired by the women’s movement in Iran, he has turned his focus more towards social and political themes, shifting from small, portable surfaces to larger canvases and life-sized figures.
His works have been showcased in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
